Nepean Capital is a fund management firm that invests across private and public markets in India. Operating from our headquarters in Mumbai, we leverage our on-the-ground presence and deep understanding of the Indian market to make prescient investment decisions that generate superior returns for our investors. We are guided by our core principles: transparency, accountability, cooperation, and hard work. These principles define the culture of our organization and inspire us to drive value creation for our investors, portfolio companies, employees, and community.
Nepean Capital is led by Gautam Trivedi and Anand Trivedi, who together have more than 50 years of experience working in Asia’s financial markets for global firms including Goldman Sachs, GE Capital, Merrill Lynch, and ABN AMRO Rothschild. Gautam and Anand also spent over 4 years in the M&A and corporate finance teams at India’s largest company, Reliance Industries, where they cultivated an in-depth understanding of how Indian businesses operate with respect to strategy, finance, and execution. This unique experience has set them apart from other fund managers by endowing them with the ability to relate to the perspectives of the CEOs who helm India’s leading corporates.
Nepean Capital’s private equity fund (structured as a Category II AIF) invests in the next generation of ventures that catalyze India’s ascendant tech industry. By serving on the boards of many of Nepean Capital’s portfolio companies, Gautam and Anand take an active role in shaping the strategic direction of their businesses. By tapping into comprehensive personal and professional networks, they create opportunities for collaboration and growth.
Nepean Capital’s public market investment philosophy is centered on a rigorous selection process that consistently succeeds at identifying triggers that are not priced into stocks. These triggers include corporate restructuring, M&A, deleveraging, and change of leadership and/or ownership. Nepean Capital’s inaugural small and mid-cap focused equity fund (Category III AIF) delivered a gross return of 96.2% (28.8% annualized) before funds were returned to investors 28 months ahead of schedule. Today we manage a multi-cap sector agnostic long-only fund (also a Category III AIF) that has reliably outperformed numerous competing strategies in addition to the benchmark NIFTY500 index.
